Xingzi Gu is a painter, writer, and performance artist. Through pondering intimacy, storytelling, and sentimentalism, Gu is interested in the relationships that dissolve and reconstruct the existing repetition of value. They perceive their interpersonal and intimate relationships as holding spaces for reconstructing individual and collective identities, exploring how both identities evolve over time to merge and diverge simultaneously. Gu’s childhood memory of social and economic instability pulls them back to engage with nostalgia and representation of the past, a period that inform their understanding of love and social revolution, individuality and community.
